Sisulu wants her Dept to be first to benefit from Land Expropriation Law and the city of Cape Town is at the top of her list for expropriation

CAPE TOWN – Human Settlements, Water and Sanitation Minister Lindiwe Sisulu said that her department would want first dibs on expropriated land once the legislation comes into effect.

Sisulu has welcomed a draft legislation on the expropriation of land already having been published and said they hope the process could be fast-tracked.

She added her department would want to be first to benefit from it to build housing.

“I cannot see that there is any greater public interest than that that we represent in Human Settlements. It should be therefore possible for us to be the first to benefit from this legislation.”

She addressed MPs on Tuesday while tabling her department’s budget vote.

Sisulu said they would also be working to prevent land invasions.

Misdaad ruk handuit in Wes-Kaap weens ernstige tekort aan hulpbronne in SAPD

Daar is net te veel misdaad-brandpunte in Kaapstad wat terselfdertyd opvlam en te min polisiëring om al die geweld te keer, sê JP Smith, burgemeesterskomiteelid vir veiligheid.

Hy sê in ’n verklaring hoewel die polisie van die Kaapstadse metroraad met die Suid-Afrikaanse Polisiediens (SAPD) saamwerk om so doeltreffend moontlik ekstra operasies uit te voer is die waarheid dat hulle nie met die beperkte hulpbronne op een slag oral kan uitkom nie.

Sy kommentaar kom ná ’n naweek van geweld waarin talle mense in en om Philippi op die Kaapse Vlakte vermoor is.

Hy sê hoewel die Kaapstadse metroraad gereeld daarvan beskuldig word dat hy nie teen die geweld en veral teen bendegeweld optree nie, het die raad sy hulpbronne in die afgelope dekade eksponensieel vergroot om die leemte in die polisiëring te vul.

Hy sê metropolisielede se magte is egter beperk – hulle mag nie misdade ondersoek of oortreders vervolg nie.

DA COUNCILLOR HELPS ANC TAKE CONTROL OF CEDERBERG MUNICIPALITY – ANC member elected themselves to executive posts when the DA caucus walked out

CAPE TOWN – The African National Congress (ANC) has taken over the governance of the Cederberg Municipality on the West Coast.

This comes after an urgent motion brought by the ANC to remove Democratic Alliance (DA) mayor Joseph Farmer. With the help of one DA councillor, the ANC managed to snatch control of council.

ANC member Sylvia Quinta has been elected as mayor, while Mariaan Nell will be her deputy.

ANC spokesperson Dennis Cruywagen explained: “Today was a good day for the ANC. They took control of the Cederberg Municipality. We are getting ready for the next municipal elections.”

DA Western Cape leader Bonginkosi Madikizela said DA councillor Bertie Sazz helped the ANC.

He said the party would not allow rogue members to cause destruction.

Prof. Sean Davison, wat aangekla is van drie moorde, is Woensdagoggend in die hooggeregshof in Kaapstad vir drie jaar onder huisarres geplaas nadat hy ‘n pleitooreenkoms met die staat aangegaan het.

Davison wat nog heeltyd volgehou het dat hy niks verkeerd gedoen het nie, het sy rol in die dade beken.

Ingevolge die pleitooreenkoms mag Davison vir die drie jaar wat hy onder huisarres is, by sy huis werk en die huis net verlaat vir geloofsdoeleindes.

Hy sal ook gemeenskapsdiens moet doen en aan verskeie programme wat deur die departement van justisie en korrektiewe dienste aangewys sal word, moet deelneem.

Davison, ‘n kampvegter vir genadedood, is daarvan beskuldig dat hy dr. Anrich Burger in 2013, Justin Varian in Julie 2015 en Richard Holland in November 2015 gehelp het om hul eie lewe te neem.

Declining economy of SA is forcing Continental Tyre SA to commence with retrenchment process , closing down a PE unit, production relocated outside of South Africa

A total of 170 jobs are on the line at Continental Tyre SA, which is shutting down its underground mining tyres and agricultural tyres production unit in Port Elizabeth and moving production out of SA.

This comes on top of a rash of liquidations – and accompanying job losses – in the Bay since 2017, with an average of three companies a month being forced to apply for liquidation since then.

In what trade union Solidarity described on Tuesday as a crippling blow, Continental issued 170 employees – in both the affected manufacturing unit and its sales organisation – with a Section 189A notice on June 7.

The notice essentially initiates an employee consultative process which could see the company cut 170 jobs.

The closure of the unit was confirmed on Tuesday by the international company’s facility in Port Elizabeth, which said its passenger light truck (PLT) tyre production would continue its operations.

Western Cape is becoming a war zone! Sadly there is only 1 cop for every 509 people in the province

According to the 2017/18 crime figures, national murder rate increased by almost 7%, which translates to 57 murders a day. The latest crime statistics show that detectives in Nyanga, Cape Town, investigate 308 murders a year on average. This was 27 more than the previous financial year.

Western Cape Premier Alan Winde said police were woefully under-resourced in the province. Winde revealed on Tuesday that the police to population ratio was one police officer for every 509 people in the province. In the Cape Town metro it was one officer for 560 people.

Kraaifontein, also in Cape Town, recorded the biggest jump with a staggering 31% increase in murders. The stats also show how almost all gang-related murders in South Africa were recorded in the Western Cape.

Winde said Western Cape police had to investigate at least 10 new murders per day and it did not include the thousands of other crimes that make up their caseloads.

Cape Town dad drove his family to safety in his final moments after he was shot by criminals who tried to hijack them

A loving dad from Blackheath, John Neethling, who was shot by two men in Heath Road, managed to drive his white VW Polo Vivo to a nearby garage where he passed away.

Relatives say John, 32, was the rock of his family. Every day, he took his one-year-old son to créche and his daughter, 10, to school.

Weens ‘n kontraktuele dispuut tussen MyCity en die Stadsraad van Kaapstad is die diens tussen Kaapstad sentraal en die gebiede Khayelitsha en Mitchellsplein opgeskort.

‘n Kontrak tussen die Stad, Golden Arrow Busdiens en huurmotor assosiasies het verlede week verval en ʼn nuwe kontrak is nog nie beding nie.

Waarnemers wonder oor hoe ʼn raad wag tot op op die nippertjie gewag word om ‘n nuwe kontrak in plek te stel is moeilik verklaarbaar.

Daar is intussen weer ʼn brand gevind by Transnet se werf waar verskeie ongebruikte treinwaens vernietig is. Dit blyk asof vervoer van pendelaars in die Kaapse metro deur onbekwame amptenare, buitensporige eise van huurmotor verenigings en brandstigters tot ‘n stilstand gebring gaan word.

Wes-Kaapse boere word deur barbare afgemaai tydens voortslepende plaasaanvalle terwyl ANC-regime blindelings weg kyk

Die afgelope maande het die Wes-Kaap se boere die teiken geword van die barbare wat moorddadig op onskuldige mense toesak.

Die naweek is nog ’n boer vermoor, en die rede waarom die volksmoord voortgaan, is heel eenvoudig.

Die moordenaars is in die meeste gevalle werkloses, wat sukkel om ’n bestaan te voer, en weet as hulle betrap word, of later in hegtenis geneem word, beteken dit tronkstraf.

Tronkstraf is vir baie ’n “uitkoms” uit die haglike situasie waarin hulle verkeer, en is nie vir almal ’n straf nie.

Die moord op Stefan Smit (62) is ’n voorbeeld van wat aan die gang is, want niks is gesteel tydens die moord aanval nie. Dit is egter bekend dat hy ’n grondeis teengestaan het, en die vermoede bestaan dat die grondgrypers agter die hele aanslag sit.

Check your traffic fines! – POSSIBLE TRAFFIC FINE SCAM EXPOSED IN WESTERN CAPE – Road users fined for wrongful speeding

Like so many others Martin Wohlfarter recently received a traffic fine with a picture of him supposedly speeding in a 80km zone on the N1 near the Huguenot tunnel.

But upon closer inspection, and triangulating the exact location of his bakkie at the position of an electricity mast and prominent rocks and boulders on the mountain ridge in the background he discovered that the actual point of capture was just after the 100km/hr sign post. He posted his discovery on social media and was flooded by others detailing the exact same experience. In doing so he might have unknowingly exposed a huge traffic fine scam in the western cape.

After posting photographic proof of his discovery tens of others responded saying they got fined in the exact same location indicating distance markers that were not in the correct zone. Illegal land grabbers started to erect houses at the Green Point bowling green

Reclaim the City activists begin building homes in Green Point, Cape Town, on a piece of land they say was promised to them by deputy mayor Ian Nielson.

Activist Nkosikhona Swartbooi says they are at the Green Point bowling green to hold Neilson accountable to a promise he made in 2018.

The groups say they are no longer waiting for the government. They have started to lay down the foundations of a house on the green.

“We’re here to say in 2018 Ian Neilson made a commitment that this piece of land, when the lease comes to an end, which was on 30 April, that they will build affordable houses.”

R33 miljoen se skade in brand by treinstasie – 12 treinwaens en 300 m se kabels is verwoes na brandstigting

Die skade van die brand Sondag by die Kaapstad-treinstasie waarin twee treine verwoes is, beloop minstens R33 miljoen.

Metrorail in die Wes-Kaap het die verwoesting van die treine as ʼn “reuse-terugslag” bestempel. Maroela Media het vroeër berig die brand het Sondag omstreeks 15:40 plaasgevind en twee treine op platforms 13 en 14 is verwoes toe sterk winde die vlamme van een trein na die ander gewaai het.

Brandbestryders was teen 16:15 op die toneel en die brand was net ná 19:00 geblus. Volgens Metrorail is alle treinbedrywighede by die stasie as voorsorgmaatreël gestaak.

Altesaam 12 treinwaens en 300 m se kabels is verwoes. Geen personeel of pendelaars is egter beseer nie.

Metrorail sê in die verklaring die polisie is besig om kringtelevisiebeeldmateriaal na te gaan as deel van die ondersoek na die voorval, maar voorlopige aanduidings dui daarop dat brandstigting die oorsaak van die brand was.
