Sovereign State of Good Hope – Self-proclaimed Khoisan King wants to stop may elections and has applied for an urgent cease and desist order against Ramaphosa and the government
A self-proclaimed king of the Khoisan People wants to stop the May elections from taking place in the Eastern Cape, Western Cape and Northern Cape.
Calvin Cornelius has applied for an urgent cease and desist order against President Cyril Ramaphosa and the government.
But the so-called Khoisan king’s legitimacy is being questioned by another Khoisan grouping.
Cornelius said he and his followers believe that the three provinces belong to the Khoisan people.
They have renamed the three provinces the Sovereign State of Good Hope and want land returned to them before any elections are held.
But the chief of the First Indigenous Nation of South Africa Gregg Fick said Cornelius is not recognised.
“We do not recognise him as a king. We do not recognise him his leadership in the Khoi-Khoi and San movement and we also do not recognise the Sovereign State of Good Hope.”
The matter is yet to be heard in court.
The return of the right and the coming of the volkstaat
Carel Boshoff IV is eloquent, intelligent and a stimulating conversationalist. As “president” of the Orania Movement it is his task to promote and protect the interests of Orania, the Afrikaner settlement near Hopetown in the Northen Cape established before the advent of democracy.
Last week Boshoff, a grandchild of apartheid premier Hendrik Verwoerd and a former member of the Northern Cape’s legislature for the Freedom Front Plus, issued a statement addressed to “Afrikaner decisionmakers” in which he argues that the time to pursue the ideal of an own Afrikaner territory – a volkstaat, in 1990s parlance – has come.
Boshoff argues that race relations are deteriorating, as illustrated by the debate on land expropriation and the recent “witch hunt” targeting the Schweizer-Reneke teacher, and says it seems that the ideal of a non-racial society remains a mirage. ANC liberal – “The state of Orania is a desecration of values”
OPINION: Thembile Ndabeni – Negotiations result from the failure of the belligerent being defeated. The ANC made a lot of compromises during the negotiated settlement that led to liberation. Part of the compromise has rendered our victory weak. Mandela had asked blacks to throw their weapons to the sea. He was not asking the armed regime to do likewise.
Most of the victims of the ensuing violence then were supporters of the ANC. They were being massacred in Boipatong and elsewhere. The same Mandela asked Andrew Babeile to go to jail after stabbing a white learner.
Yet racist white learners did not do the same for attacking Lindelani Khanyile, damaging his eye. Those white learners, their parents and teachers never showed remorse and apologized.
Instead, the MEC of education in that province, apologized on behalf of the white learners, with no prospect of jail, expulsion or suspension for the perpetrators, as was the case with Babeile.
