Chaos is once again the order of the day in Cape Town – Protesters stone cars, block roads

Protesters blocked roads and stoned cars in Cape Town on Monday morning.

City of Cape Town traffic services spokesperson Richard Coleman said PG Drive was closed in both directions between Military Road and Sonnet Way.

Coleman said protest action had also been reported in Khayelitsha.

Mew Way Road was closed in both directions between Pama Road and Alium Way.

Last week, residents from Dunoon and Joe Slovo stoned cars and set alight a MyCiTi bus.

The mayoral committee member for transport, Felicity Purchase, said the Phoenix MyCiTi station was vandalised, looted and set alight during the unrest, which saw the N7 closed several times as stones rained down on vehicles.

Purchase said repairs to MyCiTi infrastructure would cost millions and take months to complete.

Mayoral committee member for safety and security JP Smith said the unrest started earlier in the week after traffic officers cracked down on taxis.

Eiendomspryse in die ryk woonbuurte van Kaapstad het gedaal met tot 50% van die aanvanklike verkoopsprys. Verkopers in woonbuurte soos Constantia en die by die Atlantiese oseaan het hul pryse tussen 20% en 50% laat daal in ʼn poging om ontslae te raak van die eiendom.

Eiendoms makelaars meld dat die effens opwaartse flikkering na die verkiesing is deur realiteit ingehaal met ‘n 15% daling in waardasies.

Huise in die boonste segment van die mark is gewoonlik verkoop binne 75 dae terwyl die tendens nou 126 dae is. Selfs by die gewilde Waterfront Marina het eiendomspryse die jaar alleen met 24% gedaal.

Kenners is versigtig om die politieke toestand van die land aan die tendens te koppel maar die aanvraag van huise, selfs in Kaapstad, het afgeneem weens die onsekere ekonomiese- en politieke klimaat van die ruwe Suid Afrika.

Damvlakke in Wes-Kaap bereik rekord hoogte na vier jaar se droogte

Die hoofopgaardamme vir die Kaapstadse metropool is gemiddeld naby aan 80% vol. Die gemiddelde vlakke van die Wes-Kaap se damme is die hoogste wat dit in vier jaar was – en nóg reën is op pad. Een van die damme wat die beste gestyg het, is die Theewaterskloofdam wat presies twee jaar gelede slegs 22% vol was, teenoor Maandag se 66,5%.

Wes-Kaapse LUR vir omgewingsake en ontwikkelingsbeplanning, Anton Bredell sê dat die gemiddelde damvlak van die Wes-Kaap staan nou op 61,2% – die beste in vier jaar, maar dit is egter nog nie die die 79% wat dit in Augustus 2015 was voordat ’n voortslepende droogte sy tol geëis het nie. Volgens Bredell bly die grootste bron van kommer steeds die Karoo omrede landboutoestande bitter moeilik bly. Hy het die het die proses van waterbeperkings verduidelik en sê dié besluit word op munisipale vlak geneem, gewoonlik eers nadat die nasionale departement van water en sanitasie gekonsulteer is.

Sovereign State of Good Hope – Self-proclaimed Khoisan King wants to stop may elections and has applied for an urgent cease and desist order against Ramaphosa and the government

A self-proclaimed king of the Khoisan People wants to stop the May elections from taking place in the Eastern Cape, Western Cape and Northern Cape.

Calvin Cornelius has applied for an urgent cease and desist order against President Cyril Ramaphosa and the government.

But the so-called Khoisan king’s legitimacy is being questioned by another Khoisan grouping.

Cornelius said he and his followers believe that the three provinces belong to the Khoisan people.

They have renamed the three provinces the Sovereign State of Good Hope and want land returned to them before any elections are held.

But the chief of the First Indigenous Nation of South Africa Gregg Fick said Cornelius is not recognised.

“We do not recognise him as a king. We do not recognise him his leadership in the Khoi-Khoi and San movement and we also do not recognise the Sovereign State of Good Hope.”

The matter is yet to be heard in court.

Cyclists are “defenseless” against violent attacks – Two cyclists were severely injured when they were attacked by a vindictive group of people in Stellenbosch

Two cyclists were targeted in a manic attack this week, after a disagreement with a motorist lead to scenes of abject chaos in Stellenbosch.

A serious case of road rage unfolded on the popular Jonkershoek cycling route near Stellenbosch this week. Brendon Jacobs and his buddy Jandre du Raan were taking a casual spin on Sunday morning, but the peace was shattered when a dispute with a driver turned violent.

Jandre, whose bike hit a pothole and needed to be inspected, pulled over at the side of the road. However, this move angered a man behind the wheel of a blue Toyota in the same lane, who began hooting and aggressively shouting at the pair.

Talle inwoners van geskiedkundige dorpie in Cedererge dakloos na verwoestende brand groot skade aanrig

Die dorpie Wupperthal in die Cederberge, wat jare lank ’n sendingstasie was, is die afgelope naweek getref deur ‘n brand.

Dit blyk dat 53 huise, ‘n gemeenskapsaal, die biblioteek, asook die pastorie, restaurant en ‘n koshuis afgebrand het.

Die skoenfabriek waar baie van die kleurling inwoners werksaam is, het ongeskonde gebly.

Die oorsaak van die brand is nog onbekend. Bykans al die geboue het grasdakke en die brand het vinnig versprei omdat baie huise na aan mekaar opgerig is.

Die gemeenskap word bedien deur die Morawiese sending genootskap en die inwoners wat dakloos gelaat is, kyk nou na die regering vir hulp.

Stadion in Kaapstad wat vir 2010 Fifa sokker beker gebou is, staan grootliks onbenut en is ‘n las op die belastingbetalers en bankrot munisipaliteite

Die Kaapstad Stadion wat gebou is vir die 2010 Fifa Wêreld sokker beker, is ‘n wit olifant en word teen enorme verliese bestuur.

Nou het die Kaapstadse Raad miljoene geallokeer vir die aanstelling van ‘n maatskappy sekretaris en finansiële bestuurder.

R2,5 miljoen per jaar is goedgekeur vir die twee poste. Selfs JP Smith van die Burgemeesters kommitteer van veiligheid en sekuriteit het sy bekommernis uitgespreek vir verdere befondsing en waarsku dat dit ‘n las op die belastingbetalers sal plaas.

Talle stadions is in Suid-Afrika opgerig vir die sportgeleentheid waartydens die Suid-Afrikaanse span uiters swak gevaar het teen ander lande, en die stadions staan grootliks onbenut en is ‘n las op die belastingbetalers en bankrot munisipaliteite.

AfriForum releases 2018 stats on farm attacks in Western Cape – The numbers are in and they do not look good

According to the quantitative research conducted by AfriForum, there have been a total of 22 farm attacks in the Western Cape this year.

The topic of farm attacks has come to the fore a lot recently, after the lobby group brought awareness to the issue. Many South Africans have discounted this, saying that crime is an overall problem for everyone in this country.

As true as that may be, a crime is still a crime in the eyes of the law. Moreover, it is more apparent now that criminals specifically target farms for cash and weapons.

Breaking: Electricity blackouts will now wreak continued havoc on all South Africans, businesses and the economy for years to come

From once having a vast energy surplus, the South African government has not made any of the necessary provisions for new coal plants and now faces catastrophic energy shortages.

Eskom CEO, Phakamane Hadebe said “a steady decline in coal levels is threatening the firm’s ability to keep the lights on.”

Eskom Chairman, Jabu Mabuza added “Eskom is in a state of severe financial difficulty. In its current state Eskom is not sustainable.”

This dark reality spells severe problems for the economic future of South Africa and the day to day lives of all its citizens.

Chamber of Business CEO, Melanie Veness said that this inefficiency and corruption was “unacceptable”.

The private sector is already struggling with poor economic conditions. “People are trying to create jobs, but this will be impossible to do with load shedding.”

As the voices of our ancestors, the young voices of silenced generations, the firm-footed of the unfairly removed, the reach of the retreated and the kings and queens of our descendants, we remember.

We remember the drama of our nation. We remember the first democratic election. We remember the rainbow nationism. The false payoff lines of perceived patriotism. We remember the call to celebrate our differences. We vividly recall being part of a new nation only to find ourselves wordless in a country with old norms. Police deployed to Saldanha bay following protests – From investigations it seems that these protests are being fueled by outsiders

Several buildings, including the Diazville Community Hall, its office and a private residence, were torched during violent demonstrations on Thursday morning.

The area’s community health clinic was also torched.

Police say a group of about 5,000 people took to the streets in protest, burning tyres and pelting stones at officers.

An office at the Tabakbaai Holiday Resort was also set alight.

The Public Order Policing officers, as well as law enforcement officials, are on full alert to quell tensions.

A resident describes scenes that unfolded as police chased demonstrators through the streets.

“The police chased the riot up the hill, back from where they were coming from, and started shooting rubber bullets and tear gas.”

The motive for Thursday’s protest is not yet known to authorities.

Calm has been restored to nearby Vredenburg after 38 arrested demonstrators were released on Wednesday.

Onwettige protesaksies deur barbare aan Weskus veroorsaak ontwrigting en rig baie skade aan

‘n Onwettige protesaksie, al weer kwansuis oor “dienslewering” het Dinsdag oggend 13 Oktober 2018, baie skade en ontwrigting veroorsaak op Vredenburg aan die Weskus.

Daar was berigte van motoriste wat uit hulle motors gepluk en geïntimideer is, van geboue wat aan die brand gesteek is en ruite wat uitgegooi is. Besighede moes ook sluit in die Hoofstraat.

Die polisie het tans die situasie onder beheer. Die Saldanha Munisipaliteit maan egter inwoners om versigtig te wees wanneer hulle in die dorp moet wees.
